John Mays

John is a promising lawyer raised in central Kentucky who attended law school at the University of Louisville. He earned his undergraduate degree at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. His legal focus is defense in matters involving insurance litigation and worker’s compensation. John had a background in electoral politics before becoming an attorney, and completed a judicial clerkship following passage of the Bar. John joined Sewell & Neal in the summer of 2024.

John finds fulfilment in the outdoors, often riding his bike on the Louisville Loop, or kayaking down Floyd’s Fork. In college, John double majored in History and Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE). 

 A major component of John’s legal career has been focusing on regulations and the Administrative state. His post-law school judicial clerkship included a heavy emphasis on judicial review of state administrative agency decisions. John’s expertise in analyzing administrative regulations makes him a natural fit for Worker’s Compensation matters. With over 6 years of experience on electoral campaigns, John prides himself on applying his political skills to competitive litigation and participating in trials.
